While at church yesterday, I saw this passage in my hymnal that spoke to me. I've been wanting to give back somehow, to find a charity or project that I could lend my talents to and help change lives.
Send Me
Use me, God, in thy great harvest field,
Which stretcheth far and wide like a wide sea;
The gatherers are so few; I fear the precious yield
Will suffer loss. Oh find a place for me!
A place where best the strength I have will tell:
It may be one the older toilers shun;
Be it a wide or narrow place, 'tis well
So that the work it holds be only done.
- Christina G. Rossetti
I've been praying that God will lead me to where my strengths will be a great help, to a cause where I make a difference.
Last night I applied to Hugs For Homeless Animals to become an online research assistant or a volunteer coordinator. I hope that I can be of some use to them, they're a great cause that works for the comfort and proper treatment of shelter animals while they wait for their forever homes.
As you know, Sean and I adopted a shelter animal, and the woman sent him home with a bed that had been in his crate. This bed was London's security blanket during the transition, and it is the one thing that is truly his (even though now he thinks this is his house and we're merely living in it to fawn attention on him). H4HA has a Snuggles project, which offers patterns for knitters, crocheters and sewers to create and donate to shelters. That way the animals will have some protection from the cage or kennel floor and it can be their security blanket.
I'll let you know if I hear back about the volunteer positions, but in the meantime I highly suggest visiting the site, make a donation, make a Snuggle, adopt a pet, do what you can.
I pray that you also think about your own strengths, and perhaps find a way that they can be put to use for good.

1) I'm looking into your Hugs for Animals because I too love animals (one of my devotionals this morning actually focused on animals being godly)
2) below is a passage regarding Christ's field and harvest. Many times we (Christians) are called to be reapers (or fishers) of men, sewing Christ's Word throughout the world, bringing new people to know the Lord. it's something often forgotten, that no matter where our physical talents lie, we always obtain the talent of sharing the Gospel and we mustn't forget to share it! :)
" 36Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field."
37He answered, "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. 38The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, 39and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels.
40"As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear."
-Matthew 13:36-43
" 18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20At once they left their nets and followed him."
- Matthew 4:18-20
