My test subject is my husband. He's figuring out the coding behind Wordpress, which I've downloaded to manage the content of my new site/blog. The site has taken his language skills hostage, because, for the last half hour his speech has consisted of only four letter words.
It's kinda cute.
Problem is, I can't play with it yet. He's not done. I don't know if he'll ever be.
So while I wait, I'll update you with what's been going on in Project Expansion into the Blogosphere. Hmm, I think the next step needs to be coming up with a shorter project name.
Anyways...here's how far we've come so far:
1) Choose a domain name
As you may have read in previous posts, I came up with a name for my baby. This was possibly the simplest yet hardest step of all. You need a name you can live with for a loooong time. Until you have that name you can't buy the domain. The decision? Drum roll please...
Wake Up, Juliet
You're all probably scratching your heads, trying to figure out how that plays into anything. Let me explain:
Growing up, I fell head over heels for the Disneyfied fairy tales which toted the love+marriage=happily ever after equation. I always held a secret hope that I'd find a prince who I'd have a romantic, carefree, successful life with. Well, I found my prince, married him, and have swallowed the large pill that is reality. I didn't marry a romantic guy, and happily ever after doesn't just fall in your lap. You've got to work at it and build your own happy ending day by day. Sean is my prince. He's sweet, funny, very intelligent (he can understand all that codey stuff), and usually very eloquent (above instance excluded). We share a love of theater, Shakespeare in particular. A Shakespeare character who I felt fit the young, naive mold was none other than Juliet Capulet, who wound up dead when her happily ever after didn't come so easily. Hence, Wake Up, Juliet latched onto my mind and wouldn't let go.
2) Create a Web banner that reflects the look of the site
Remember I asked you to vote on your favorite? I wanted the site to have a romance-meets-today look. So which one beat out the others?

I didn't want the typical clean lines, Martha Stewart-esque look that I see done so often. I love intricacies and details, so I think I struck a good balance.
3) Choose a platform to manage your new blog
I chose Wordpress...which is why my husband is still cursing up a storm. He's trying to figure out the intracacies behind it so he can truly customize it for me. Wordpress does offer many ways to customize your blog, but apparently that's not good enough for me. Did I mention my prince was stubborn? It's ok, he's cute, so I'll forgive him.
I'll keep you posted on how this is going...hopefully I'll be posting on my new site soon!
